Runbo Li

Co-founder & CEO, Magic Hour

Co-founder and CEO of Magic Hour, a Y Combinator–backed startup building video and image creation tools for users without production experience.

About

Runbo Li is the co-founder and CEO of Magic Hour, an AI video platform built for the people who need video most and have the least time to make it: solo creators, small business owners, and social media marketers. The product wraps the best generative video models in templates, so users pick a format, drop in their inputs, and get a finished clip.

He started the company in 2023 with David Hu, a childhood friend he has known since 1997. The pair began experimenting with generative video while helping their parents market small businesses on social media, and concluded that the existing tools demanded technical fluency most users do not have. Magic Hour went through Y Combinator's Winter 2024 batch.

Before Magic Hour, Li spent two years as a senior data scientist at Meta's New Product Experimentation group, the team building Meta's zero-to-one consumer social products. He held earlier data and analyst roles at Convoy and Compass Lexecon, and trained as an economist at the University of Toronto.
