Since 1961, Intek Plastics has manufactured precision thermoplastic extrusions for major OEMs across North America, with its strongest foothold in fenestration, supplying the largest window and door manufacturers in the country. Orders range from 5,000 to 15,000,000 linear feet, with materials spanning rigid PVC, polycarbonate, and thermoplastic elastomers.
In 2024, the company launched three biocomposite extrusion grades incorporating UBQ, a thermoplastic from upcycled municipal solid waste, at 10 to 20 percent alongside recycled ABS. That year it also acquired a 72,000-square-foot Wisconsin extrusion facility, then added Five Star Plastics, an injection molder, in 2025.
The strategic logic is straightforward but unusual for a mid-market plastics company: build full-service capability (extrusion, injection molding, prototyping, assembly) while simultaneously moving the material portfolio toward sustainability. If fenestration OEMs are pressured to reduce virgin plastic content, Intek wants to be the supplier already qualified with the alternative.
WHY IT STANDS OUT
Named a finalist for the Plastics News Processor of the Year Award in 2025, and won the SME Excellence in Manufacturing Training Award in 2023.
Launched three commercial biocomposite extrusion materials in 2024, each containing 10 to 20 percent UBQ, a thermoplastic derived from upcycled municipal solid waste.
Expanded from a single Minnesota facility to three locations across two states between 2024 and 2025, adding injection molding and twin-screw extrusion capabilities.
