BioNeutra manufactures VitaFiber IMO, a functional food ingredient used by more than 200 manufacturers across four continents in protein bars, ice cream, yogurt, beverages, and confectionery. The product functions simultaneously as a low-calorie sweetener, a prebiotic, and a soluble dietary fiber, a combination the company refers to as triple-action.
The ingredient is produced through a patented enzymatic process that converts pea or tapioca starch without chemical modification. Regulatory approvals span all three major global bodies: FDA GRAS status, Health Canada certification as both a novel food and a dietary fiber, and EFSA novel food authorization.
The underlying science took 20 years and work across three countries to complete. The commercial result is an ingredient addressing two recognized public health problems, sugar overconsumption and low dietary fiber intake, in a single formulation. For a 30-person company, the regulatory and commercial reach is disproportionately large.
